It is the question every group organiser asks sooner or later: will everyone's bags actually fit? Nobody wants the scene at the hotel lobby where three suitcases have to ride on someone's lap — or worse, get left behind.
The good news: a full-size coach carries a serious amount of luggage. This guide explains exactly what fits in a 51-seater, how the luggage holds work, what changes on airport transfers, and how to handle oversized or unusual items.
The short answer: one large suitcase per seat
As a rule of thumb, a 51-seat luxury coach comfortably carries one large checked suitcase plus one piece of hand luggage per passenger — so roughly 50 large suitcases plus 50 cabin bags. The underfloor holds on a coach like our 51-seat Higer are deep, wide and accessed from both sides, which makes loading fast and organised.
That rule assumes standard luggage. If your group travels light (backpacks and cabin bags only), you will have room to spare. If everyone brings two large suitcases plus extras, tell us in advance — we may recommend a 51-seater for a 40-person group, or add a luggage plan to the booking.
Smaller vehicles follow the same logic at their own scale: a 35-seat bus takes about 30–35 large suitcases, a Coaster around 20, and a 13-seat minibus roughly 10–12. When in doubt, read our guide to choosing the right bus size or just tell us your headcount and bag count on WhatsApp.
How the luggage holds work
Coach luggage lives in underfloor compartments between the axles — separate from the passenger cabin, so the seats stay clear and comfortable. On our coaches these holds are:
- Accessed from both sides of the bus, so loading at hotels and airports is quick
- Lockable, so bags are secure whenever the bus is parked
- Separate from the cabin, which means no bags blocking aisles or emergency exits
Valuables, passports, laptops and medicines should always stay with you in the cabin — that is standard practice on every coach trip worldwide, not just in Dubai.
Airport transfers: what changes
Airport runs are the one case where luggage math gets serious, because everyone has bags — often more than usual. A family of four arriving for a two-week holiday can easily bring six large suitcases. A full 51-seat coach of arriving tourists with maximum luggage will be tight.
Our practical advice for airport transfers:
- Count bags, not just people. "45 people" tells us the seats; "45 people with 60 large suitcases" tells us the vehicle plan.
- Consider sizing up. For airport pickups, we often recommend the next vehicle size up from your headcount — a 51-seater for 40 passengers with heavy luggage, for example.
- Share your flight number. Our chauffeurs track flights, so an early or delayed landing does not become a problem. See our airport transfer guide for large groups for the full picture.
Oversized and special items
Standard suitcases are easy. These need a heads-up when booking:
- Sports equipment: golf bags, cricket kits and dive gear usually fit fine — just mention them.
- Musical instruments: guitars and small cases are no problem; double basses, drum kits and cellos need planning.
- Wheelchairs and mobility aids: folding wheelchairs fit in the hold; tell us in advance so we allocate space and, if needed, a vehicle with easier access.
- Coolers, boxes and event materials: for corporate events and weddings, we regularly carry staging boxes, welcome gifts and catering coolers. A quick list of what you are bringing lets us plan the load.
If it does not fit in a standard hold, we will tell you honestly and suggest options — a second vehicle, a luggage trailer arrangement, or a different plan. Better to know before the lobby scene, not during it.
Packing tips for smooth group trips
- Label every bag with the owner's name and phone number. Fifty black suitcases look identical.
- Keep one day's essentials in hand luggage — chargers, medicines, a change of clothes.
- Load heavy items first, at the back of the hold, so unloading at the hotel is in reverse order.
- Agree a bag count with your group leader before loading. Counting at the hotel beats counting on the highway.
- Tell the driver about fragile items — they will place them where nothing heavy lands on top.
Will 51 suitcases really fit in a 51-seater?
Yes — one large suitcase per seat is the standard planning figure, plus hand luggage in the cabin. If your group averages more than that, mention it when booking and we will adjust the vehicle plan.
What about a Coaster or minibus — how much do they hold?
Roughly: a 13-seat minibus takes 10–12 large suitcases, a Coaster (22–34 seats) around 20, and a 35-seat bus about 30–35. These are comfortable figures, not absolute maximums — ask us if your load is unusual.
Can we bring food, coolers or event materials?
Yes. We regularly carry coolers, gift boxes and event materials for weddings and corporate groups. Just list what you are bringing when you book so we allocate the hold space properly.
Do your chauffeurs help with loading?
Yes — our chauffeurs help load and unload at every stop. For large groups with heavy luggage, the driver will organise the hold so everything is secure and quick to unload.
Book your group trip with room to spare
Tell us your headcount and roughly how much luggage the group is bringing. We will match you with the right vehicle — with space to spare, not excuses at the kerb.
