51-Seater vs 35-Seater vs Coaster: Pick the Right Bus

51-seater, 35-seater or Coaster? A practical guide to matching bus size to your group — comfort, luggage and cost explained by Dubai transport pros.

Choosing the wrong bus size is the most common mistake in group transport. Too big and you pay for empty seats. Too small and people sit cramped, luggage ends up on laps, and the day starts badly. Here is how transport professionals match vehicle to group — the same logic we use when you ask us for a recommendation.

Start with the real headcount (plus a buffer)

Count every traveller, including children and infants — every person needs a seat and a seatbelt. Then add a buffer of 2–4 seats. Why? Because groups always grow: a colleague brings a spouse, a cousin decides to join the wedding trip, the client adds two more guests. A buffer also gives everyone breathing room on long drives like Dubai to Abu Dhabi. If your count is 46–48, book the 51-seater. If it is 30–32, the 35-seater is your sweet spot.

The 51-seat Higer luxury coach: for 40–51 passengers

Our 51-seat Higer is the flagship for large groups — weddings, corporate outings, school trips and tour groups. Reclining seats, strong air-conditioning, generous legroom and a large luggage hold underneath. It is the most cost-effective option per person once you pass about 40 travellers: one vehicle, one driver, one invoice. For anything above 51, we simply add a second coach and run them as a convoy with coordinated pickup times. See the full specifications on our fleet page.

The 35-seat bus: the flexible middle

The 35-seater covers the awkward middle that minibuses cannot handle and where a full coach feels wasteful. Ideal for 25–35 passengers: department outings, sports teams with kit, mid-size wedding parties. It navigates tighter streets and hotel driveways more easily than a full-size coach, which matters in older parts of Deira or at venues with limited parking. If your group might grow past 35, tell us upfront — upgrading later during peak season is not always possible.

The Toyota Coaster (22–34) and 13-seat minibus: smaller groups

The Coaster is the workhorse of UAE group transport. For 20–30 passengers it offers near-coach comfort in a more manoeuvrable package — perfect for airport transfers, half-day city tours and site visits. Ours seat 22–34 depending on configuration. A practical note: Coasters have limited luggage space compared to a full coach, so for airport runs with 30 people and full suitcases, mention the luggage when you book and we will confirm the right setup — sometimes that means a 35-seater instead.

For under 15 travellers, the 13-seat minibus (our Toyota Hiace class) is the smart pick: easy parking, quick loading, and the lowest cost per trip. It suits family airport pickups, small team dinners and crew movements. Beyond 13 passengers, do not try to squeeze — book the Coaster. Comfort on a 45-minute drive matters more than the small saving.

Luggage changes everything

A group of 30 with hand luggage fits a Coaster easily. The same 30 with two large suitcases each needs the 35-seater's hold. Always tell your transport company about luggage — it is the detail most people forget and the one that causes most day-of problems. As a rule of thumb: airport groups need one vehicle size up from what the headcount alone suggests. Our airport transfer guide covers this in detail.

What about cost per person?

Bigger is almost always cheaper per seat. A 51-seater working out across 48 passengers typically beats two minibuses on total cost — and it keeps the group together, which is half the point. But do not book a 51-seater for 25 people "just in case": you pay for 26 empty seats and the vehicle feels cavernous. Match the size, add the small buffer, and you get the best of both. For what each size typically costs, see our pricing guide.

FAQ

Can children share seats to fit a smaller bus? No — every passenger, including children, needs their own seat and seatbelt. It is a safety rule and the law. Count every head.

What if my group size changes after booking? Tell us as early as you can — just contact us. Moving up a size is usually possible with a few days' notice; moving down may carry a small adjustment depending on timing.

Do you provide two buses for 60+ people? Yes. We run multi-vehicle convoys for events with staggered or simultaneous pickups, coordinated by our dispatch team so both buses arrive together.

Which is better for a wedding: one 51-seater or two Coasters? One 51-seater keeps everyone together and costs less overall. Two Coasters only make sense with two genuinely separate pickup locations at the same time.
